Five Reasons the Right Atmosphere Boosts Your Creativity

With our recent expansion, CDM Studios now boasts five state-of-the-art, fully equipped sound stages. Each studio is designed to help you create your best work. Our goal in the expansion was not only to make more room for all of the amazing talent with whom we have the pleasure of collaborating each day — but also to create a home away from home, where each of you would feel inspired to be your best creative selves. Our largest studios are bathed in sunlight, creating an energy-positive ambiance especially through the cold winter months. Booths are wired with ethernet and 50” LCD screens and can accommodate large multicast recording sessions. Our fully stocked green room is perfect for hosting your talent and guests. We understand the importance of creating the right atmosphere, so the green room includes a private access from entry to sound stage. The expansion project took about four months to complete. The rooms have enjoyed so much new work that my planned office space was big-footed by the addition of the fifth studio. Huge thanks to FM Design for helping us create this “next level” studio and second home for our artists and clients.

Tears For Fears' Curt Smith on "Here's The Thing" podcast

I have the kind of job where I get a lot of fanboy moments, but for some reason this one hit me in a different way.

When I was 12, my parents picked me up from sleep away camp in their Plymouth Volare station wagon. When I got in the car, dreading being squeezed next to my brother and sister for the next 8 hours, my brother put a set of headphones on me and said, “Listen to this.” It was the album, “The Hurting” by Tears for Fears. It had just been released. I must have listened to it on a loop for the rest of that summer. I still listen to it. So do my kids. One of the greatest albums of all time.

I had the chance to tell Curt Smith that story. What a gentleman, what a talent, what an honor.

Puss In Boots: A Musical

CDM Studios is over the moon to have recorded the multi-award winning, multi-cast Puss in Boots with Tony Award winning audiobook narrator Jim Dale. This groundbreaking format is only the second of its kind — a musical audiobook.

It has just been awarded two SOVAS (Society of Voice Arts and Sciences) Awards for "Outstanding Production" and "Best Children’s Audiobook.” We were all so energized and inspired to work with the incredible cast. Here's some behind-the-scenes footage of the cast making magic in studio. Such fun being surrounded by so much talent in the booth at one time.

In fact, CDM's large booth is one of a kind, created expressly to accommodate large multi-casts. We so love all of the incredible artists and clients we have the privilege of working with every day. #lovemyjob

Making History with “Hamilton” and Lin Manuel-Miranda

What a pleasure to collaborate with these mega-watt talents: Lin Manuel-Miranda, Phillipa Soo, and Chris Jackson. Recording tracks for the “Hamilton Exhibition,” which takes a more detailed look at the remarkable, legendary career of Alexander Hamilton, was pure fun. The Chicago Tribune calls the exhibition, “Inventive and visually imaginative…executed at the highest levels of art and craft.” Humbled to be part of this historical and ground-breaking work!

Two-Time Grammy Award Winning CDM Studios

Charles de Montebello is honored to be a double Grammy Award winning sound engineer. CDM Studios took home the Grammy for Best Comedy Album at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards for Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents…America: A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction.

The studio won again at the 53rd Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album (includes poetry, audio books & story telling) for Stewart’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents Earth (The Audiobook). Charles and CDM Studios are proud to have brought their creativity and obsession with detail to these long-running bestsellers.

Seeking the Right Person to Lead CDM Studios’ Portable Story Series

CDM Studios is looking for someone with a strong literary background to helm its established Portable Stories Series. CDM Studios set up the contest in 2017, with winning short stories read by well-known recording artists, recorded in one of our studios, and published online in audio version.

Judges have included Pen/Faulkner Award winner Kate Christensen, award-winning science fiction writer Paul Levinson, best-selling author Kate Bolick, and Pen/Bingham Prize winner Rion Amilcar Scott. Narrators include Isabella Rossellini, Dion Graham, Richard Thomas, Lena Dunham, and many others! Winners share the proceeds from listener donations between themselves and a selected charity. It’s a volunteer position with the chance to make a big impact in the literary field, work with top talent, and take a major step toward a career in publishing and the production of audio content.
